The National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) has directed the industries ministry to ensure that the benefit of recent reduction in international prices of edible oil is passed on to domestic consumers effectively.
NPMC Reviews Prices of Essential Commodities
The Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, chaired a meeting of the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) for the review of the price trends of essential commodities during the week, here today.
The Finance Secretary briefed the attendees about the weekly Sensitive Price Index (SPI) and particularly about the decline in the prices of wheat flour, vegetables, and eggs due to the coordinated efforts of all the provincial governments.

ISLAMABAD:
Five weeks after congratulatory messages by Prime Minister Imran Khan about reduction in sugar prices, the government on Wednesday allowed import of additional 800,000 metric tons of sugar and 300,000 metric ton of wheat to arrest their soaring prices.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet took the decisions while also setting up a committee to approve the second bailout package of $36 million for the Roosevelt Hotel in the last four months.
According to a handout issued by the Ministry of Finance, it also decided to relax foreign investment policy, allowing people to make acquisitions and set up subsidiaries and holding companies abroad.
The ECC allowed tax- and duty-free import of 500,000 tonnes of refined sugar through the public sector and another 300,000 tonnes of raw sugar by sugar mills. File
ISLAMABAD: Amid rising prices, the government on Wednesday decided to allow tax- and duty-free import of 800,000 tonnes of sugar and 300,000 tonnes of wheat to beef up buffer stocks.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet presided over by Finance Minister Dr Hafeez Shaikh.
