Sensex, Nifty trade lower; Burger King spurts 20%

The domestic equity barometers continued to trade with modest losses in mid-morning trade. At 11:27 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 271 points or 0.59% to 45,982.46. The Nifty 50 index lost 79.80 points or 0.59% to 13,478.35. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index slipped 0.39% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index shed 0.26%. The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 1090 shares rose and 1551 shares fell. A total of 134 shares were unchanged. Economy: India s retail inflation declined to 6.93% in the month of November even though it remained above the Reserve Bank of India s (RBI) upper margin of 6 per cent, data released by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) showed. The retail inflation, which is measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), for the month of October was 7.61%.

Nifty hovers above 13,500; breadth negative

Benchmark indices trade with modest losses in early afternoon trade. The Nifty reclaimed 13,500 mark. Barring the Nifty IT index, all the sectoral indices on the NSE declined. At 12:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell 176.48 points or 0.38% at 46,076.98. The Nifty 50 index slipped 43.25 points or 0.32% at 13,514.90. Sentiment was weak amid negative cues from Asian markets as worries about increasing Covid deaths and lockdowns overshadowed optimism about the roll-out of coronavirus vaccinations. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 0.23% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index lost 0.10%. The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1,254 shares rose and 1,503 shares fell. A total of 137 shares were unchanged.

Sensex, Nifty end almost flat; FMCG stocks correct

The domestic equity benchmarks ended near the flat line on Tuesday. The S&P BSE Sensex, added 9.71 points or 0.02% to 46,263.17. The Nifty 50 index added 9.70 points or 0.07% at 13,567.85. Both the indices attained record closing high levels. The Nifty opened in the red and hit the day s low of 13,447.05 in mid-morning trade. It witnessed recovery from early afternoon trade. It bounced back in mid-afternoon trade and hit the day s high of 13,589.65. After some bouts of volatility, the indices closed with minor gains. Gains were capped due to negative cues from other Asian markets as worries about increasing Covid deaths and lockdowns overshadowed optimism about the roll-out of coronavirus vaccinations. FMCG stocks corrected while metal stocks advanced.

Sensex, Nifty hit day s high

Key equity barometers reversed losses and hit fresh intraday high in mid-afternoon trade. At 14:23 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 75.90 points or 0.16% at 46,329.36. The Nifty 50 index added 28.65 points or 0.21% at 13,586.80. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index gained 0.18%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.17%. Buyers outpaced the sellers. On the BSE, 1499 shares rose and 1393 shares fell. A total of 172 shares were unchanged. COVID-19 Update: Total COVID-19 confirmed cases worldwide stood at 7,28,50,994 with 16,21,159 deaths. India reported 3,39,820 active cases of COVID-19 infection and 1,43,709 deaths while 94,22,636 patients have been discharged, according to the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
