A weekend of bizarre weather has been forecast for the province. A wildfire near Prince Albert has also hurt the air quality in the area and forced the closure of Highway 55 north of the city before it reopened Thursday. Throw in COVID-19 restrictions, and you have an informal start to summer like no other. Despite those factors, very few people are cancelling their reservations. Robin Campese, the executive director of visitor experiences with the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport, said only 27 people had cancelled sites throughout the entire province as of Thursday evening.

New provincial park reservation website is now open

After a year of being cooped up, and told to minimize travel, the prospects of spending some time at the lake might seem pretty good right about now. If you want to book a campsite, get ready, because the Ministry of Parks, Culture and sport is launching its new website for Saskatchewan provincial parks. Campers at those parks are now able to browse the new reservation website and create an account in preparation for the 2021 campsite reservation launch which opened on April 12. “After many months of preparation, we are pleased to be able to release our new campsite reservation system to the public,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said in a release. “This reservation system offers new amenities to customers, and is quite different than past years. This is a great opportunity for campers to become familiar with the new system making their reservation process a smooth one in the coming weeks.”

Gomez says he is excited to showcase the diversity of Saskatchewan through digital storytelling, and is “pumped to explore every corner of Saskatchewan, experiencing all this province has to offer.” The province says, in the same news release, Gomez “will find ways to safely showcase” what the province has to offer, ranging from businesses, art, cultures, landscapes and wildlife. Minister Responsible for Tourism Saskatchewan, Jeremy Harrison, says Gomez “brings an impressive range of talents and a fresh perspective, as a new Canadian, to the role.”
