When President Muhammadu Buhari performed the virtual inauguration of the National Oil and Gas Excellence Centre on January 21, 2021, on one of the issues he spoke about was modular refinery. He mentioned the completion of the 5,000 barrels per day Waltersmith Modular Refinery.
The refinery is near the Ibigwe marginal field flowstation in Imo State. It is the biggest commissioned modular refinery in Nigeria. The African refinery project is being developed in phases by Waltersmith Refining and Petrochemical Company, a subsidiary of Nigeria-based Waltersmith Petromen Oil.

Transparency International (TI) has, again, passed a damning verdict on Nigeria’s anti-corruption war, ranking the country 149th on its yearly Corruption Perception Index (CPI) after it picked 25 points, the worst since 2013.
With the rating, Nigeria dropped three points from its last (2019) ranking when it sat 146th on the table. The 2020’s index was co-led by New Zealand and Denmark after they polled 88 points individually. They were followed by Finland, Switzerland and Singapore (a country that emerged from a stinky official corruption history under the late Lee Kuan Yew) in that order.

Methanol gas project to create 30,000 jobs – Sylva

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, says the upcoming intergrated methanol and gas project would create 30, 000 direct and indirect jobs in the country.
Sylva disclosed this at the signing ceremony of the Final Investment Decision( FID) on Gas processing and methanol plant project, by Brass Fertilizer and Petrol Chemical Company ( BFPCL), in Abuja, on Friday.
Methanol is a light colourless and flammable liquid with a distinctive alcholic odour, similar to that of Ethanol.
“In July 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari, who also doubles as the Minister of Petroleum Resources, approved the development of the brass company with the sole aim of aggregating for the purpose of monetising all stranded gas in the Brass area.
