Senate5 The Senate, yesterday, ordered 59 Federal Government agencies to return over N300 billion misappropriated funds into the federation account. It gave a 60-day ultimatum within which all money illegally spent by the erring agencies between 2013 and 2015 should be recovered and remitted into the treasury This was sequel to the consideration of the report of the Committee on Public Accounts on the yearly report of the Auditor General of the Federation (AGF) on accounts of the Federation for the year ended December 31, 2015 (Part Ii &1). x The Senate panel, for over a year, had been investigating expenditures of Federal Government agencies from 2015 to 2018 based on audit report by the AGF.

This followed the consideration of the report of the Committee on Public Accounts on the annual report of the Auditor-General for the Federation on the accounts of the Federation for the year ended December 31, 2015 (Part I &II). The committee observed that the Code of Conduct Bureau misappropriated N995m; the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, N1.77bn; the Nigerian Port Authority, N68.9bn, $2.3m and €196,000; the Nigerian Health Insurance Scheme, N4.35bn; the Bureau of Public Enterprise, N8.84bn; the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, N821.9m; the National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control, N1.88bn and the Mortgage Bank, N369m.

Senate faults NNPC over under-remittance of N3 8trn from crude oil sales

By Kingsley Okoye/08067555610 Abuja, July 14, 2021 The Senate on Wednesday at plenary faulted the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) over alleged under-remittance of N3.8 trillion revenue from domestic crude oil sales to the Federation Account between January and December 2015. It therefore urged the corporation to desist from further deduction at source, as the practice contravened Section 162(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). It also mandated the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) or any other approving authority to urgently approve agreed percentage which should be allocated to NNPC monthly, as operational cost to prevent its operations from been affected adversely. Senate’s decision was sequel to the adoption of 59 recommendations contained in the report of its Committee on Public Accounts on the Annual report of the Auditor-General for the Federation on the Accounts of the Federation for the year ended Dec. 31, 2015.
