Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, tasked the womenfolk to fight for more space to take up leadership positions in the country, saying biased views against womenfolk would have to be eradicated.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave this charge in his keynote address during the commemoration of the 2021 International Women’s Day at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.
March 8 of every year is the day set aside globally to celebrate women.
This year’s event tagged, ‘Choose to challenge,’ was attended by the State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat; the First Lady of the state, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; wife of the deputy governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat and chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon Mojisola Alli-Macaulay.
The Afghan government today celebrated its first anniversary under President Ashraf Ghani.
President Ghani, after taking oath office for a second term, pledged to work for security, promote a regional and international consensus on peace, alleviate poverty and complete the cabinet.

Among the critics is Atta Mohammad Noor, the chief of executive of Jamiat-e-Islami Party, who says that the government has been monopolized by few individuals and those accused of corruption have been assigned to various posts by President Ghani.
On this day a year ago, Afghanistan also witnessed two parallel presidential inaugurations.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday assured Nigerian women that he will continue to give them pride of place in his administration.
This is is as six persons were declared winners in the short video competition on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) organized for Nigerians by the Delegation of European Union (EU) to Nigeria and ECOWAS at the presidential villa, Abuja on Tuesday.
President Buhari made the promise when he received in the audience the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Mrs Winnie Byanyima.
