DHAKA, April 30, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has again stood with humanitarian support beside the country’s destitute and vulnerable people hit hard by the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic to ease their hardship in this difficult time.
The prime minister herself has been monitoring the humanitarian assistance activities along with providing necessary directives, aiming to offset the adverse impact of the deadly virus attack.
To this end, the prime minister will provide financial help of Taka 2,500 each to some 36 lakh severely-affected families, as she has reassured the nation that her government remained beside the people asking them “not to be panicked”.

Dhaka April 29, 2021 – Marking the 30th anniversary of the devastating 1991 cyclone that claimed 138,000 lives, on Thursday, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bangladesh Acting Deputy Mission Director, Milan Pavlovic, joined Dr. Enamur Rahman, MP, State Minister for the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR), to officially handover 61 USAID-refurbished and renovated multi-purpose cyclone shelters (MPCS) to the Government of Bangladesh (GOB). These MPCSs serve the dual purpose as schools during most of the year and as safe havens for community members during cyclones and floods. The inaugural event was broadcast live today at 10:00am from the Moddyo Chakoria MPCS in Chakoria, Cox’s Bazar, with guest speakers attending virtually due to the pandemic. DHAKA, April 25, 2021 (BSS) – The government has so far allocated Tk 584.92 crore for the humanitarian assistance of unemployed people due to the lockdown in the second wave of Covid-19, said State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M Enamur Rahman.
The state minister said this at a press conference at the secretariat today on the overall relief allocation and distribution activities, said a press release.
The state minister said the government had provided various types of financial assistance including huge amount of food items to the marginalized people across the country last year in response to the directive to restrict movement in Bangladesh as a result of global epidemic Covid-19.

The government has taken steps so that the low-income and jobless people do not face any food crisis during the “strict lockdown” slated to be enforced from April 14 to contain the transmission of coronavirus.
“So far, an amount of Tk 527.9 crore has been allocated by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief in two tranches. We’ll increase the allocation, if needed,” its Secretary Md Mohsin told UNB.
The fund has already been sent to upazilas and will be disbursed in due time, said Mohsin adding, “Some 12.4 million families will get assistance. We’ll ensure that not a single family without income is left out.”
