Foreign Minister Liimets: the protection of human rights contributes to peace and security

In an online meeting of the UN Human Rights Council today 4 May, Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets presented the national report of Estonia submitted to the third Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The review gives an overview of human rights developments and recommendations by states following our previous review in 2016.
Minister Liimets said Estonia remained committed to respecting and advancing human rights and fundamental freedoms in cooperation with other UN member states. “Respect for international law as well as the protection and advancement of human rights contributes to global peace and security. Long-term joblessness rising but slightly brighter situation for young people
Long-term unemployment has risen faster than total joblessness for the past six months, according to the labour ministry.

Long-term joblessness is growing faster than total unemployment, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment said on Tuesday. Until around six months ago, both categories were growing at roughly the same rate.
There were 104,000 long-term unemployed people who had been looking for work for more than a year in March. That was up by more than 39,000 from a year earlier.

Force Survey, the number of employed people was 22,000 higher in
March 2021 than one year ago. There were 24,000 more unemployed
persons than in March 2020. The trend of the employment rate was
71.1 per cent and the trend of the unemployment rate was 7.7 per
cent.
