The industrial production index rose 16.78 percent annually to a record high of 136.16 last month, thanks to robust demand for technology products and vehicles, while retail sales rose to surpass pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said yesterday.
The index, an indicator measuring real output in manufacturing, electricity, mining and water supply, rose for the 14th consecutive month, ministry data showed.
The main momentum came from the sub-index of electronic components production which has a 43 percent weighting in the index expanding 26.68 percent year-on-year to 169.79, marking the 16th month it expanded by a double-digit

ISLAMABAD (APP) – Federal Minister for Economic Affair Omar Ayub Khan asked the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) to identify their development priorities and financing needs for pipeline projects.
The minister commended the performance of ongoing foreign-funded projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and showed his satisfaction on the pace of project implementation, said a press release issued by Ministry of Economic Affairs here.
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan held a meeting with the government of KPK to discuss development priorities of the provincial government and explore options for enhancing public investment.

A protocol of common intent to build an undersea tunnel to Finland will be signed by Estonia on Monday.
At a cabinet meeting on Thursday, the government consented to allow Minister of Economic Affairs Taavi Aas (Center) to sign the agreement with Finland. Its contents will be made public after signing, the government office said. The agreement of intent does not mean a tunnel will definitely be built in the future.
The agreement means the plan can be added to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) which creates the possibility to apply for European funding in the future.

Taipei, April 23 (CNA) Taiwan s industrial production hit a new monthly high in March as the tech sector continued to ride the waves of solid global demand, while the old economy sector showed signs of a recovery at a time when many countries have come up with economic stimulus measures to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said Friday.
Data compiled by the MOEA showed the industrial production index for March rose 16.78 percent from a year earlier to 136.16, marking the 14th consecutive month of year-on-year growth.
