Trade Secrets Act to be tightened

The Executive Yuan is to draft amendments to the Trade Secrets Act (營業秘密法) to define sensitive technologies in an effort to prevent China from stealing Taiwanese trade secrets, Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Chao Tien-lin (趙天麟) said yesterday.
The issue was brought to Premier Su Tseng-chang’s (蘇貞昌) attention by Mainland Affairs Council Minister Chiu Tai-san (邱太三), who told Su that amendments to the act were needed to address Chinese attempts to steal critical technologies from Taiwan, Chao said.

Mailiao cannot replace Datan: MOEA

The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) yesterday dismissed reports that the government is planning to replace the third liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal project in Taoyuan with an LNG terminal in Yunlin County’s Mailiao Township (麥寮).
The Chinese-language United Daily News yesterday cited “senior MOEA staff” as saying that President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) had asked Formosa Plastics Group (FPG, 台塑集團) chairman William Wong (王文淵) if the construction of an LNG terminal in Mailiao could be sped up.
