Twitter on Wednesday said that it has suspended more than 500 accounts in response to orders by the Indian government.
In an extensive statement 'to set the record straight', the social media giant said, "We took a range of enforcement actions including permanent suspension in certain cases against more than 500 accounts escalated across all Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology orders for clear violations of Twitter’s Rules."

Earlier the Centre asked Twitter to take action against some Twitter handles as they were inciting genocide , while some action was taken but others were restored.

NEW DELHI: Microblogging site- Twitter aid in a blog post that it won t block the accounts of politicians, journalists and activists in India.
It is to be mentioned that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had requested to block certain profiles on national interests.
Explaining its stand on the blocking orders for certain handles from the Indian government, micro-blogging platformon Wednesday said it had now withheld a portion of the accounts

The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it is taking the help of a US-based private body, which gives technical details on uploading of child porn to 99 countries, to curb the menace in India. In a status report to be filed in the top court, the Centre has said that US-based National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) acts as a resource centre for information about missing and exploited children and they provide free details through a secure channel to the central law enforcing agency of the US and 99 other nations.
