Southland dairy farmer Christoph Kenel was ordered by the
Employment Relations Authority (ERA) to pay $30,000 in
penalties for failing to comply with the Employment
Relations Act 2000 and the Holidays Act
2003.
Christoph Kenel operated Swiss Farm in Winton as
a sole trader, employing multiple workers, including those
on working holidays.
The Labour Inspectorate, part of
the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
investigated Mr Kenel in 2019 after receiving a complaint
from a former employee about not receiving a written
employment agreement and being paid less than the statutory
minimum wage.
Mr Kenel did not keep holiday and leave

Former far-Right leader Kyle Chapman has found a new cause to fight for; spreading Covid-19 vaccine disinformation. Chapman, who claimed he had fought against racism his whole life – racism against white people, he adds – said he was now fighting for “everybody’s medical freedom”, including Māori and Pasifika. He had joined a group which was printing and distributing flyers containing misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines. A Nelson-based group created the flyers and printed 20,000 of them, he said. They sent him 5000 copies, which he said he would distribute in letterboxes all over Christchurch. An “unlimited” number of flyers could be printed in future, he said.

Bloomfield says there are no new Covid-19 cases in the community today, and two new imported cases have been identified in Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) facilities.
Bloomfield says one of the new cases arrived from India and tested positive on day three and the other arrived from Pakistan and tested positive on day seven - the latter case is a contact of an earlier reported case.
It has emerged the security guard at the Grand Millennium managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) facility who tested positive for Covid-19 last week was recorded as receiving his last test in November despite an expectation of fortnightly testing.
