The government has so far processed 123,000 new applications for inclusion in the latest list of freedom fighters from across the country, barring those from the Khulna Division.
The authorities are also scrutinising another list of 43,000 people, who are acknowledged in civilian freedom fighter gazettes but lack any other verifiable records.
The verification process will be completed by the offices of deputy commissioners and Upazila Nirbahi Officers on Jan 9, according to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

According to the decision of the 70th meeting of the Jatiyo
Muktijoddha Council, they were recognized as freedom fighters.
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has also issued a gazette on
December 14 to this end.
With this, a total of 400 war heroines (Birangona) freedom fighters
have been recognized since October 12, 2015.
They will enjoy all the other government benefits that the freedom
fighters deserve including the monthly allowance.

The government has recognised 61 more Birangana (war heroines) for their contribution and sacrifice during the country s Liberation War in 1971.
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs today issued a gazette notification in this regard. With the latest inclusion, a total of 400 Birangana received the status of freedom fighter.
Every recognised Birangana will now receive a monthly allowance of Tk 12,000 and special quota in government jobs and benefits for their children and grandchildren.
The process of recognising Birangana as freedom fighters started following a High Court order on January 27, 2014.
At least 1.62 lakh women were raped, and 1.31 lakh Hindu women went missing during the Liberation War, according to the War Crimes Facts and Findings Committee led by Dr M Hassan.

Selection heroic freedom fighters will start on Jan 9

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2020 (BSS) – As per the decision of the 71st meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council, only the freedom fighters with civilian gazette without the approval of the council will be screened on January 9, 2021 instead of December 19.
If the name of a heroic freedom fighter is included in the Indian list or the Red Muktibarta or 33 types of evidence recognized by the Ministry, those will be out of the scope of verification and selection, said a press release.
If the name of any such heroic freedom fighter is mistakenly published in the verifiable list on the website of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs or the council, it is requested to contact the concerned Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s Office or Deputy Commissioner’s Office with suitable evidence to remove the name from the list.
