Baltic foreign ministers agree on a special flight from the United Kingdom

At today’s video meeting, the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania informed each other that the Baltic States would uphold flight restrictions with the United Kingdom until the end of the year. Further steps will be coordinated among the ministers. They also agreed on organising a special flight for those citizens of Baltic States who urgently need to return to their homeland. The Government of Estonia today plans to approve additional self-isolation rules for passengers arriving from the United Kingdom. The required period of isolation will be 14 days instead of 10 days. Passengers arriving from the United Kingdom will also be obligated to remain in isolation for 7 days after their first negative COVID-19 test, and then take another test. If the second test is also negative, they can return to work for essential duties.
Foreign Minister Reinsalu: we highly value close Nordic-Baltic cooperation during the COVID pandemic

On Friday 18 December, Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu chaired a video meeting of Nordic and Baltic (NB8) foreign ministers who discussed cooperation in the fight against COVID-19, the situation in Belarus and transatlantic relations, and took stock of Estonia’s NB8 coordinating year. “2020 has been difficult due to the spread of the coronavirus; however, Nordic-Baltic cooperation was quick to adapt and established a close and efficient exchange of information early in the crisis, and a system of consular cooperation to evacuate our citizens, continuing with regular meetings throughout the year,” Foreign Minister Reinsalu said. He emphasised that close cooperation should continue in the future, including on the reciprocal recognition of testing and vaccination.
Updated travel advice concerning the UK

Due to the spread of a new coronavirus variant in the UK, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly advises against any travel to the UK. When travelling to the UK, additional restrictions may apply upon return from the UK or arriving in other countries from the UK, also there is a risk of unforeseen travel disruptions.
Today, 20 December, the Estonian government decided to suspend the air traffic between Estonia and the UK starting from midnight tonight until the end of this year. The ban on air passenger transport is temporary, the government will review it when more information about a new coronavirus variant becomes available. More information on air traffic restrictions between Estonia and the UK can be obtained from the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.

Updated information about countries and self-isolation requirements for passengers arriving in Estonia as of 18 December

Starting from Monday 21 December, the mandatory self-isolation does not apply to passengers arriving in Estonia from a country of the European Union and the European Economic Area, the Schengen area and a country included on the common list of the EU with an infection rate below 50 persons per 100 000 inhabitants.
Based on the coronavirus infection rate, starting from Monday 21 December, the 10-day restriction on the freedom of movement applies to people arriving in Estonia from the following European countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland , France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia , Liechtenstein, Lithuania , Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marin
More than 40 countries presented their best digital solutions to fight the coronavirus pandemic

Yesterday, Estonia and the United Arab Emirates hosted the virtual business forum Global Business Summit, where more than 40 countries presented their best digital solutions and innovation for mitigating the coronavirus crisis.
The Global Business Summit aimed to bring together governments and companies to share best digital solutions and practices that would accelerate digitalisation and help solve the issues resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. The business forum was opened by Estonia’s Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates H. H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
