Preventing violent extremism in Uganda and Somalia
The Kofi Annan Foundation, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, is expanding its youth-led activities in Uganda and Somalia to prevent violent extremism. The Foundation’s Extremely Together initiative, through its network of exceptional young leaders, aims to equip youth with the capacities to recognize extremist narratives and patterns and find adequate responses.

Pioneering Solar Power Plant to Take off in Uzbekistan with World Bank Group Support

TASHKENT, December 22, 2020 – The World Bank Group, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Uzbekistan signed today loan and guarantee agreements to finance the first 100-megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant in the country, in support of its efforts to produce clean energy, strengthen the security of supply and combat climate change.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and ADB are providing up to $60 million in the financing of the project which will be the first large-scale, privately developed and operated renewable energy facility in Uzbekistan. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing an equity bridge loan to Masdar to fund the equity needs of the project. Regional approach to travel advice for Europe
A regional approach to travel advice in the EU and Schengen countries as well as the UK has been introduced. The Danish Health Authority’s new main recommendation has now come into force.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark updates weekly the travel advice for the EU and Schengen countries as well as the UK on the basis of the latest infection figures published by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
For the countries that provide regional test data to ECDC, it could be opened up for travel to low-risk regions in quarantine countries. It could also be possible that travel to high-risk regions in open countries is discouraged. Furthermore, all non-essential travel to countries with extensive entry restrictions for travellers from Denmark is advised against.
