Balts Award nominations sought

(Latvian Public Broadcasting) On 15 April, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Lithuania have issued a call for nominations for the annual Balts’ Award for 2021. The aim of the Balts’ Award is to recognize excellence and achievement related to individual contributions and accomplishments in promotion of Latvian-Lithuanian and Lithuanian-Latvian translations, teaching as well as enhancing the use of Latvian and Lithuanian languages, research on the Latvian and Lithuanian tangible and intangible cultural and historic heritage, as well as investigative journalism on Latvian and Lithuanian history, culture and tourism, said the official notice.     Both indvidual persons and institutions can be nominated for the Award. The deadline to submit nominations is 30 June 2021 and the jury’s decision on the winner will be made in August 2021.

Ms María De Los Angeles Benítez Salas will take up her duties as Head of Representation in Madrid on 1 April 2021. On 16 April 2021, Ms Ms Jerneja Jug Jerše will start in their new functions in Riga and in Ljubljana, respectively. Heads of Representation act as the official representatives of the Commission in the Member States under the political authority of President Ursula von der Leyen. Ms Benítez Salas, a Spanish national, brings with her a wide range of experience as well as her management expertise gained during her 35 years in the European Commission.
