OPINION: Soon the submission period for the Aquaculture Chapter (Variations 1 and 1A for mussel farming and finfish farming) of the Proposed Marlborough Environment Plan (pMEP) is closing. Of particular concern was compliance with Policy 8 of the statement, which requires the acknowledgement that aquaculture contributes to the general well-being of communities through allocation of the activity in appropriate places. The Marlborough Sounds iconic landscape has faced continuous challenges over the years with ever higher demands for economic outputs from land and marine based sources.
