Minister Byrne meets with French and German counterparts to discuss Brexit and the Northern Ireland Protocol   Minister for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne TD held a virtual meeting yesterday with his French counterpart, Secretary of State for European Affairs Clement Beaune. This was followed this morning by a virtual meeting with his German counterpart, Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth, to discuss the new situation following the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. Minister Byrne thanked both countries for their solidarity during the Brexit negotiations culminating in the Trade and Co-operation Agreement. The Minister commented: “This was a necessary agreement, which required a tremendous amount of effort and negotiation and we thank you for your solidarity throughout the process.”
