Queensland police have been left to manage reinstated NSW border checkpoints without Australian Defence Force help after a request was knocked back by the federal government.
About 150 ADF personnel were withdrawn from the state line in late September as travel restrictions eased amid federal pressure to open up further.
At the time, the Defence Department said the withdrawal was due to a shift in focus towards hotel quarantine and planning for high-risk weather due to the La Nina weather event.
