Whitsundays tourism operators suffering a “critical” shortage of workers will receive a much-needed boost from a new multimillion-dollar state government campaign launching today.
The $7.5m Work in Paradise campaign aims to lure thousands of jobseekers from across Queensland and Australia to take a tourism job in regional Queensland, offering $250 travel vouchers and $1500 cash incentives to those who relocate from July 1.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said competition for workers such as chefs, waiters and bartenders, through to tour guides and deckhands on the Great Barrier Reef, was “at an all-time high,” and the $7.5m package would “give people the best chance there is to work, play and live in our top travel spots in regional Queensland”.
