LONDON: The British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth will head to the Indo-Pacific region later this year in what Britain is calling “the most significant Royal Navy deployment in a generation”. The move comes as post-Brexit “Global Britain” demonstrates a renewed focus on the region.
It will be the first operational deployment of the Queen Elizabeth carrier strike group.
The deployment of the 65,000-tonne, 280-metre-long Royal Navy Fleet Flagship, which has a flight deck capable of carrying up to 40 aircraft, in the region will provide opportunities for the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy and their respective Japanese counterparts to operate together.
