The amount of therapy for mental health delivered to children in Morecambe Bay has increased since the start of the pandemic, figures reveal. Data from NHS England shows that 18,520 mental health treatment sessions were delivered to under-18s by NHS services in the Morecambe Bay CCG area between April last year and January this year – 8.1 per cent more than in the same period 12 months before. It reflects the trend across England, where the number of sessions delivered increased by 16.1 per cent to around 4 million. This prompted the Royal College of Psychiatrists to warn that children and young people are at risk of lifelong mental illness due to the mental health crisis triggered by the pandemic.
