There has been a further rise in the number of deaths relating to coronavirus in Cornwall. One more person died at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust Thursday (December 17), with the data being reported today (Saturday). It is the fourth confirmed hospital death this week, following one yesterday and two deaths being recorded within the Trust on Wednesday. Both patients died on Saturday, December 12. It means there have now been 101 hospital deaths in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic, involving patients who have tested positive for Covid-19. Of these, 75 of them have been at Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals and the remaining 26 took place at the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust earlier in the year.

One of Cornwall s hospitals has closed its doors to new admissions - thought to be as a result of an outbreak of coronavirus. A spokesperson for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust confirmed that the West Cornwall Hospital in Penzance would not be taking in new patients for the time being. She said: West Cornwall Hospital has put new admissions on hold. Covid is continuing to circulate in the local community and this is a stark reminder of the need for everyone to follow restrictions, minimise contacts, keep a distance, wear face coverings and wash hands regularly.” It comes as figures show the number of patients in hospital in Cornwall with coronavirus is almost six times higher than a week ago.
The latest data detailing cases of Covid-19 in Cornwall has been published. As of 4.40pm today (Thursday, December 17), the local authority area has had 62 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours. The government website states that the total number of cases recorded in the local authority area since the start of the pandemic now sits at at 4,206. There were 174 cases recorded in the seven days lead up to December 11. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete. This represents a weekly rate of 30.4 cases per 100,000 people. The UK has had 35,383 new cases reported in the previous 24 hours - compared to yesterday s figure of 25,161.

The most recent hospital death in the county before the latest update was on Wednesday, December 2. Nationally a further 369 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 45,126.
