Pornchai was wanted for several alleged offenses: one for an act in front of Maejo police station in Chiang Mai, another for having “spray-painted the fence outside the Royal Thai Police Office on Nov 18 last year, and [another for] allegedly … set[ting] fire to a picture of … the King and other material in front of the Criminal Court on Ratchadapisek Road on March 6…”. A man accused of committing lese majeste in Chiang Mai has been arrested in Nonthaburi.
Police apprehended Pornchai Wimolsupawong, 38, a Mae Hong Hon resident, in front of a condominium building on Rattanathibet Road in Muang district on Wednesday evening, Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Pakapong Pongpetra said on Thursday.
Mr Pornchai was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Chiang Mai Provincial Court for alleged lese majete and computer crime.
He allegedly committed the offences in front of Maejo police station in Chiang Mai.
The suspect is also alleged to have spray-painted the fence outside the Royal Thai Police Office on Nov 18 last year, and allegedly also set fire to a picture of His Majesty the King and other material in front of the Criminal Court on Ratchadapisek Road on March 6, Pol Lt Gen Pakapong said.
Gambling probe expanded to include another 253 police

The Royal Thai Police Office has expanded its investigation into a gambling network operating illegally in the East to include 253 more policemen, in addition to the seven officers already implicated.
Announcing the expansion on Thursday, Pol Gen Visanu Prasattongosoth said the investigation headed by police inspector-general Pol Lt Gen Manote Tantrathian had already looked into the activities of seven officers, including the provincial police chiefs in Rayong and Chon Buri.
It concluded that casinos had been operating illegally in the two eastern provinces for a long time. Investigators now suspected another 253 policemen may be involved, Pol Gen Visanu said.

Forty policemen have been quarantined after coming into close contact with a Covid-19 infected riot policeman, who caught the virus on a visit to Samut Sakhon and was later deployed at protest rallies in Bangkok.
National police chief Pol Gen Suwat Jangyodsuk on Friday outlined efforts to control the spread of the virus at Wang Thonglang police station in Bangkok, where the man works.
He said 24 police had been in close contact with the infected officer, Pol Sen Sgt Maj Somyot Nuamcharoen. They were tested for Covid-19 and quarantined at Police General Hospital. The test results were pending.

More than 800 hotels, restaurants and shops have been accused of defrauding the popular Rao Tiew Duay Kan ( We Travel Together) co-payment scheme, according to police.
The Rao Tiew Duay Kan scheme allows struggling businesses in the tourism sector to receive government subsidies amid the coronavirus pandemic. The programme was meant to stimulate local tourism. About 3.5 million people registered to participate in the scheme when it was launched in July.
