Lady Tebbit, who has died aged 86, suffered severe spinal injuries when the IRA bombed the Grand Hotel at Brighton during the 1984 Conservative conference, also seriously injuring her husband, the Trade and Industry Secretary Norman Tebbit.
Though paralysed below the neck, Margaret Tebbit fought back, with the support of her husband, to lead a reasonably full life within the constraints of her need for 24-hour care. She campaigned for greater mobility for the disabled and for a national training scheme for carers.
“She was much loved and will be much missed.”
The Tebbits were both badly injured when a bomb ripped through the Victorian seafront hotel in Brighton during the 1984 Conservative Party conference, killing five and injuring 34.
A photograph of the then trade secretary being stretchered from the wreckage in his pyjamas became one of the enduring images of the attack.

Lady Tebbit, then 50, spent two years undergoing treatment at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
Although she recovered some use of her hands and arms, she needed a wheelchair for the rest of her life.
Boris Johnson has paid tribute to Lady Margaret Tebbit after she passed away aged 86.
Writing on Twitter, the Prime Minister paid a heartfelt tribute to Lady Tebbit, calling her a brave woman who showed enormous fortitude.
The PM added: Very sad to hear the news of Margaret Tebbit s death. She was a brave woman who showed enormous fortitude in her suffering after the 1984 Brighton bombing. My thoughts are with Norman and their family at this difficult time.
Lady Tebbit, who was paralysed in the notorious 1984 IRA Brighton bombing that also left her then Cabinet member husband Norman seriously injured, died peacefully on Saturday, it was revealed yesterday. She was 86.
