UK property prices are set to continue to rise after the gap between demand for homes and supply grew to its widest level since 2013, surveyors have reported.
FTSE 100 Edges Higher In Cautious Trade
BRUSSELS/FRANKFURT/PARIS (dpa-AFX) - U.K. stocks bucked a weak regional trend to edge higher on Thursday ahead of upcoming U.S. inflation data and the European Central Bank meeting.
The G7 summit officially gets underway on Friday, with issues such as the coronavirus pandemic, climate and trade likely to top the agenda.
The benchmark FTSE 100 rose 18 points, or 0.3 percent, to 7,098 after ending 0.2 percent lower on Wednesday.
Energy stocks fell as oil prices eased on data showing an increase in U.S. gasoline and diesel supplies. BP Plc and Royal Dutch Shell both dropped around half a percent.
European Shares Struggle For Direction Ahead Of ECB Meet
BRUSSELS/FRANKFURT/PARIS (dpa-AFX) - European stocks were flat to slightly lower on Thursday as investors geared up for the European Central Bank meeting and awaited the release of U.S. inflation data for clues as to when the Federal Reserve might tighten its dovish monetary policy.
The outcome of the governing council meeting of the ECB is due at 7.45 am ET. After the meeting, ECB Chief Christine Lagarde holds the press conference in Frankfurt at 8.30 am ET.
The U.S. Labor Department is scheduled to publish its consumer price index data at 8:30 a.m. ET.
