Defenders Team New Zealand are working on their plans for the next America’s Cup with challenger of record Team UK.
Defender Team New Zealand and challenger of record Team UK have knocked back a surprise challenge by the New York Yacht Club that sought to radically revamp the America’s Cup.
The New York Yacht Club, seeking some clarity and long-term assurances, set out a long list of suggestions under a draft protocol that included a multi-event schedule for the next four regattas, believing the event is at “a pivotal point”. They want that started at Auckland 2024.

On Thursday, May 6, the New York Yacht Club submitted to the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in Auckland, New Zealand, a challenge for the 37th America’s Cup. The challenge was accompanied by a draft Protocol for the regatta, which would see the Cup Match take place in New Zealand during early 2024, utilising the AC75 class.

The New York Yacht Club lodged a challenge for the 37th America s Cup with Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and current defenders, Team New Zealand, this month - despite the event not yet being open to entries.
The details of when and where the 37th America s Cup will be held as still being worked on between Team New Zealand and the Challenger of Record the Royal Yacht Squadron and Team UK.
But the New York Yacht Club have also spent their time since their American Magic entry dropped out of contention for the latest America s Cup held in Auckland thinking about the future and they have serious concerns about what will happen next with the Match.

The harbourmaster was commenting as the port outlined its vision for a new “urban quarter” with a dedicated cultural space, a “repurposed” inner basin and high rise waterfront residential development.
The “vision” unveiled by the port yesterday, involves development of some seven hectares (17 acres) of inner docklands for housing, commercial and recreational use.
