Over
its 150-year history, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) has kept
pace with astonishing developments in yacht design and technology, from the
wood-and-cotton era through to the space-age carbon-fibre and titanium
materials in use today. In honor of this anniversary, this stamp issue
celebrates four of New Zealand’s key competitive yachts.

“The Cup is going nowhere without the mother of all fights. You’d have to be Marvin the Mind Reader sitting in a booth on Queen Street taking a dollar a pop to predict the way this is going to fall.” While it all comes down to the starts, the scoreline has proven captivating to everyone. “Such is the level that both teams are sailing at that what we have emerging is possibly the greatest, closest, most thrilling Match of all time where just when you think you know the answers and have unlocked the mystery of this contest, your brain is scrambled and crashed and everything is turned upside down,” wrote Wheatley.
