People looking for work in West Northumberland are being offered places on a cut-price training courses with guaranteed jobs at the end.
A PAIR of teenagers found themselves stranded in the middle of a frozen pond. They had walked over the icy surface to reach an island in the middle of the water in East Grinstead but while they were there, the frozen pond around them began to break up. Fire crews were called and used an inflatable rescue raft to rescue them yesterday afternoon. West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service rescued two teenagers from the middle of a frozen pond in East Grinstead Credit: Steve Buchanan-Lee A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: We were called to help rescue two teenagers who had become stuck on an island in the middle of a frozen pond near Moat Road in East Grinstead at 4.25pm on Sunday (February 14).
She admits she did consider going in herself. In hindsight, I did have a line which I could have tied around me but I wasn t sure whether the older ladies (who were nearby) could pull me out. The firemen said when they dredged my coat out that it was 5ft deep and sludge, I ve heard horror stories and seen first hand when you get stuck and you can t get out.
She added: I begged this lady, please don t go in - she put her foot in, and fell in sidewards, outstretched her hand, and started smashing the ice. The dog swam a little towards her, she dragged her out and she said run to the vets. That s when the fire brigade started running towards us.
AN Antrobus schoolboy who saved the life of a little girl on holiday has been recognised for his heroic efforts.
The Guardian reported back in November how nine-year-old Frank Emsley had been on holiday with his family during the October half-term, when he rescued a four-year-old girl who who was lying face down in the swimming pool. Frank quickly sprang into action and pulled the girl out of the water of the pool at the hotel in Tenerife, where she was treated by lifeguards and paramedics. At the time, Frank s mum Sarah hailed her son as a humble hero and the young lifesaver s actions were also praised by his school teacher.

Matt Clark, of Clark’s Machinery Services, gave a free service and new gel battery along with new air filter and anti-puncture gel in the tyres.
