Raymond Bowe/BarrieToday The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 44 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths in the region in its update today.  The deaths reported today include two Bradford West Gwillimbury women who were over 80 and one Innisfil woman between 65 and 79 years old. Both Bradford resident cases were linked to the outbreak at Bradford Valley Care Community. One of the women died on Jan. 26 and one died on Feb. 1.

  BARRIE, ONT. The Simcoe Muskoka health unit reports 58 new COVID-19 cases across the region and one new variant case, for a total of 91 on Thursday. The health unit lists 60 more possible variant cases but are awaiting test results for confirmation. According to a new report, more than five per cent of positive COVID-19 cases collected in January in a major Ontario study tested positive for highly infectious coronavirus variants of concern. Of the 1,880 positive samples from Jan. 20 that were analyzed, 103, or 5.5 per cent were confirmed or highly likely to be either the UK B.1.1.7 or South African B.1.353 variants of concern.

Raymond Bowe/BarrieToday The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 129 new COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths in the region since Friday. All 11 deaths were Barrie residents and include seven women over 80 from Roberta Place, two men over 80 and one man between 65 and 79 years old from Roberta Place, and a woman between 65 and 79 years old whose case was not linked to Roberta Place.
