It means a total of 5,597 patients have now died in the region s hospitals after contracting the virus. A further 1,005 have died in the region s care homes after testing positive for coronavirus.
NHS England announced a further 789 deaths on Thursday, taking the death toll in the country s hospitals to 64,111.
Seventeen deaths were announced at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, where 808 people have now died.
Nine deaths were recorded at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs County Hospital in Stafford and Royal Stoke University Hospital, taking the coronavirus death toll there to 1,105.
