On March 23, Barton Peveril Sixth Form College held its annual Careers in Healthcare Day. Due to the pandemic, this event had to be held virtually but still allowed industry experts and alumni to share their knowledge and experience with students. Among those who spoke at the event were: Dr Richard Bain (Cardiac Physiologist, Southampton Hospital), Dr Mark Ashton (Neonatal Doctor, Southampton General Hospital), Dr Hannah Semeraro (Lecturer in Audiology, University of Southampton), Dr Ben Papps (Clinical Neuropsychologist, Royal Hampshire County Hospital). Subject Leader for Health and Social Care, Jodie Lindsay-Watson, branded the event a huge success . She added: Our current students loved hearing from Barton Graduates who were able to share their experiences of their first few years at university, alongside experts within the field of Health and Social care.”

Nearly 500 people have signed in favour of the campaign after last year s announcement that a new hospital is likely to be built near Basingstoke to serve central Hampshire. This knocked hopes that the Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH) in Romsey Road will retain its current range of services. The online petition, created by a user named Save Winchester , reads: The growing community of Winchester and staff do not want the accident and emergency relocated to Basingstoke or just outside Basingstoke in the countryside.
