More states in northern Nigeria have ordered all schools to close following last week s kidnapping of hundreds of pupils in Katsina state.
Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara and Jigawa have followed Katsina in closing schools following Friday s attack.
The Islamist militant group Boko Haram has said it was behind the raid.
More than 300 children are still missing, raising fears for the safety of other schools, especially those in remote areas.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Union of Teachers has threatened a nationwide strike unless the government urgently improves the security situation.

The Islamic terror group Boko Haram claimed responsibility on Tuesday for the kidnapping of nearly 700 students from a secondary school in northern Nigeria on December 11.
The Nigerian militant group released a four-minute audio clip on Tuesday in which a man identifying himself as Boko Haram’s leader, Abubaker Shekau, said he and his fellow jihadis were responsible for the abduction of an estimated 668 schoolboys in the town of Kankara, located in northern Nigeria’s Katsina State, over the weekend.
“Our brothers are behind the kidnapping in Katsina,” a voice on the recording identifying himself as Shekau said, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.

Masari described the report that some of the abducted students are dead as false.
He spoke during an interview with Channels Television.
The governor also disclosed that security agents were restrained from shooting at the abductors to avoid killing the students.
“We don’t want any of the children wounded or killed, that’s what is restraining our security personnel from opening fire on the abductors,” he said.
Some gunmen had last week abducted several students in Kankara Local Government Area of the state.
Following the incident, Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau had claimed responsibility for the abduction.

Abuja [Nigeria], December 16 (ANI/Xinhua): The national union of Nigerian teachers on Tuesday threatened to down tools over recent attacks on schools, including Friday s abduction of students in the country s northwestern state of Katsina.
Recent attacks have posed a threat to the lives of teachers and students, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) said in a statement, in response to the attack on the Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, in which more than 300 students went missing.
The latest attack in Katsina sent shivers through the spine of other members of the union in the academic community, the union noted.
