Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has given reason students of Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina State were kidnapped during President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit in his home town.
Soyinka in a statement on Monday said the abduction is a slap on the President’s face and a challenge from the criminals who abducted the students.
Soyinka stressed that it is yet another confirmation that the President is not in charge of Nigeria.

Nigeria’s Boko Haram jihadist rebels have claimed responsibility for the abduction of hundreds of pupils in an attack on a boys’ school in northern Katsina state, according to a Nigerian online newspaper.
More than 330 children are missing from the Government Science Secondary School in Kankara after gunmen with assault rifles attacked their school on Friday night.
The Daily Nigerian said it received an audio message from Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau saying his group abducted the schoolboys because Western education is against the tenets of Islam.
“What happened in Katsina was done to promote Islam and discourage un-Islamic practices as Western education is not the type of education permitted by Allah and his Holy Prophet,” the paper quoted Mr Shekau as saying.

On Friday December 11, 2020, at around 9:40 p.m., gunmen wielding AK-47 rifles stormed the Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina State on motorbikes, shot into the air and rounded up the students.
It is unclear how many students were kidnapped and how many have returned to their parents and guardians after scaling the perimeter fence on the night of the attack.
Witnesses and officials have estimated that the school typically holds 800 to 1,200 students.
More than 300 students are still missing, local authorities say.

Boko Haram says it abducted Nigeria schoolboys
Nigeria-based Islamist militant group Boko Haram has said it was behind last week s kidnapping of hundreds of schoolboys in the north-western Nigerian state of Katsina.
More than 300 pupils are unaccounted for, but others managed to escape.
The authorities had previously blamed bandits for the attack.
Boko Haram, has been notorious over the last decade for school kidnappings, including in Chibok in 2014, but these have taken place in the north-east.
In an audio message about the abductions, its leader Abubakar Shekau said what happened in Katsina was our responsibility and that his group opposed Western education.
