Insecurity: NUT laments reoccurrence of school invasion, abduction of teachers, students

Daily Post Nigeria Published The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), on Tuesday, lamented the re-emerging incidence of school invasion and abduction of teachers and students across the country’s educational institutions. NUT also called on the federal, state and local governments to ensure adequate security and 24 hour surveillance around schools in Nigeria. Secretary-General of the union, Dr Mike Ike-Ene, made this known in a statement while reacting to the recent kidnapping of students at the Government Science School in Kankara, Katsina State. The statement read, “The wicked and merciless hands of anti-education terrorist clinched Mr. Alu Ola Paul a Headteacher with Olagua Primary School Ohordua in Edo State, and Kidnapped him on his way to work on the 1st December, 2020 and released six day later.

It warned that anything short of this would force members of the union to down tools until when it would be safe for them to teach and guide pupils and students without fear of abduction. The union gave the warning in a statement on Tuesday by its Secretary-General, Dr Mike Ene, while condemning the recent attack on a school in Katsina State.

We Will Work With FG To Improve Security Situation, APC Assures Nigerians

  The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured Nigerians that the party will work with the Federal Government to improve the security situation in the country. The assurance came after about 500 students were abducted from Government Science Secondary School Kankara in Katsina State on Sunday, the nation learnt again that more than 330 of those students are still missing. Education under attack in Northern Nigeria -- Amnesty International

ADVERTISEMENT Amnesty International, a global rights organisation, on Tuesday said education in northern Nigeria is under threat in the wake of rising insecurity in that region. It attributed the recent abduction of hundreds of boys in Government Science Secondary School in the town of Kankara, Katsina State, to “an attack on education in the northern parts of the country.” PREMIUM TIMES had reported how the 333 students were abducted by gunmen on motorbikes on December 11. Boko Haram, a terrorist organisation and Nigeria’s major security threat that has claimed responsibility for the raid, said it took over 500 students. The terror group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, stated this on Tuesday in a video obtained by HumAngle, a platform dedicated to conflict reporting.
