HIV incidence and deaths have continued to decline since the establishment of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) 14 years ago, the Director General of the agency, Dr Gambo Aliyu, has said.
He stated this yesterday in Abuja while presenting the stewardship of the HIV response in Nigeria from 2007 to date to mark the agency’s anniversary.
NACA was established as the agency for the multi-sectoral coordination of the HIV response in Nigeria on February 22, 2007.
In 2018, the agency with support from her partners led the largest population-based HIV/AIDS survey in the world, called the Nigeria HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) leading to a rebasing of the HIV epidemic in Nigeria from a prevalence of 5.8% to 1.4%.

The virtual weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting is on at the State House, Abuja with President Muhammadu Buhari presiding.
The 33rd edition of the meeting holding at the Council Chambers is physically attended by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha and the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.
Ten ministers are also in attendance and they include Ministers of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; Attorney General of the federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Finance, Zainab Ahmed; Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu; and Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be among the first set of people to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria on live television, an official has said.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha will also receive the vaccine on live telecast in a move the government hopes will help drive awareness.
Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency Faisal Shuaib stated this on Thursday at the weekly press briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.
He said: “On Tuesday, I mentioned that we will like to see a situation where Mr President, the Vice President, the SGF, critical leaders come and take the vaccine in full glare of the public to demonstrate that this vaccine is safe.
