Chennai tops table with 236 fresh cases; total recoveries in the State breach 8-lakh mark
The number of people testing positive for COVID-19 dropped below the 900-mark for the first time since May 30, 2020, on Sunday.
As many as 867 persons tested positive for the infection on Sunday, taking the total number of cases reported in Tamil Nadu so far to 8,20,712. The number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 crossed the eight-lakh mark. With 1,002 recoveries reported on Sunday, the total recoveries stood at 8,00,429, which is 97.5% of all cases.

A resident of Chennai, the patient is among the six U.K. returnees whose samples tested positive for the new variant following genomic analysis. The sample of a U.K. returnee to Tamil Nadu, who had tested positive for COVID-19 and was isolating in a hospital, was found to contain the new variant of coronavirus, Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan said on December 29.

“He was quarantined immediately on arrival. He was isolated in a separate room in the hospital soon after he tested positive for COVID-19 and all his contacts were also tested. Those who travelled with him on the flight were tested and found to be negative. He is doing well,” Mr. Radhakrishnan told reporters following an inspection at the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.
Doc drove away cops vehicle in Chennai
The doctor was caught drunk driving at 1.30 AM on Monday midnight. After he was tested drunk, he was sent to his home in an auto by the police.

Chennai: In a very surprising event, a doctor in Chennai drove the Chennai police crazy on Monday midnight, as he drove away cops vehicle. A doctor, who was returning from his friend s house at 1.30 AM on Monday, was caught by the Chennai Police and was sent home in an autorickshaw for driving drunk.
The doctor, who is identified as Dr S Muthu Ganesh, a 31-year-old man from Arakonam, Chennai was caught drunk driving on Harrington road. He was sent home in an autorickshaw and was asked to keep his car with the police. However, when he came back to take his car, the police refused to return. Out of anger, the doctor drove away from the police vehicle and dashed the jeep against an autorickshaw at Kilpauk, injuring three people.
