NDIS Minister Stuart Robert says there are no plans to halt controversial changes to the disability support scheme that peak groups warn will see participants viewed as a number, not individuals.
An alliance of 20 disability representatives, providers and advocates on Thursday urged federal politicians to stop independent assessments, saying the reforms undermine the integrity of the NDIS.
The flagged changes would see independent assessments occur for new participants and plan reviews, to determine what type of support people need.
The free assessments are done by healthcare professionals who do not know a participant, rather than their doctor of choice.

A group of 25 disability advocacy groups has signed a joint statement urging a halt to controversial NDIS reforms and for them to be rebuilt with an end-to-end co-design process directly involving people with disability.
The signatory organisations say their clients “are overwhelmingly expressing acute fears regarding the risks to their health, wellbeing and access to reasonable and necessary supports” raised by the mandatory independent assessment reforms set to come into effect later this year.
The signatories say the consultation offered on the reforms has been centered on how to implement the policy, not the development of the policy itself.
An eight-day hearing of the disability royal commission that began on Tuesday will hear from 33 witnesses as it explores indefinite detention and the "cycling in and out" of prison by people with disability.
