President Pahor insists STA funding must be restored

Slovenia Times 4. May, 2021 Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor insists that financing of the public service performed by the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) must be restored, his office told the STA after the president yesterday tweeted that the agency plays an irreplaceable role. Pahor served as prime minister when the act governing the STA was adopted, securing the agency’s editorial and financial independence. When public service funding was suspended for the first time last year, he received STA director Bojan Veselinović and then talked on the phone with Uroš Urbanija, the head of the Government Communications Office (UKOM). At the time he called on both sides to sort out issues that had led to the suspension of financing.

Government adopts national recovery and resilience plan

Slovenia Times 29. April, 2021 Brdo pri Kranju – The government has adopted the national recovery and resilience plan to send it to the European Commission. The plan will serve as the basis to draw funds from the EUR 750 billion fund for recovery following the coronavirus crisis, with Slovenia expecting EUR 2.47 billion in funds. “In the plan, Slovenia has defined development fields with relevant reforms and investments to help mitigate negative economic and social effects of the Covid-19 epidemic, and prepare the country for challenges of the green and digital transitions,” the Government Communications Office said in a press release on Wednesday. For Slovenia, the plan envisages EUR 1.8 billion in grants and some EUR 666 billion in loans. The amount of funds may be increased if demand arises and conditions for this are met.
