With some States flagging concerns over the shortage of COVID-19 vaccines in the last few days, health officials have said that Tamil Nadu’s stock will last 10 days.
“Going by the current rate of utilisation, we presently have stock for 10 days. We have a stock of 18 lakh doses now,” an official from the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said. The State received an additional supply of 2.14 lakh doses of Covaxin and 11.02 lakh doses of Covishield on April 3.
As on April 8, the vaccination programme’s total coverage stood at 34,87,036. This includes those who received both doses of the vaccines.

The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) that approved indigenously manufactured Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin lacked experts of domain knowledge, health experts said.
According to the Health Ministry, eight out of nine members that participated in the virtual meeting-agreed and approved the recommendations except Dr. B. Gupta from NDMC Medical College and Hindu Rao Hospital who expressed some concerns about the vaccine candidate.
The identity of the SEC members, which has been kept under wraps, was disclosed by the Ministry in response to a Rajya Sabha question on March 23.

Cases spike in Ernakulam with 487 testing positive

The district recorded a spike in new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 487 people testing positive.
Five health workers were among those who were infected. The active caseload has crossed the 3,000-mark and now stands at 3,013.
Koothattukulam recorded the highest number of cases with 23 people testing positive. This was followed by Thrikkakara with 22 new cases, and Thripunithura with 18 new cases.
As many as 191 people have tested negative. A total of 9,291 samples were sent for testing.
Of the people recovering from the infection, 1,948 are recuperating at home, 38 patients are at PVS Hospital and 30 patients are at the Government Medical College Hospital. At private hospitals, 262 patients are being treated, while 39 people are at FLTCs and 120 patients are admitted at SLTCs.
