The state Department of Public Safety is investigating after staff at the Arizona Legislature received a letter on Wednesday that contained a suspicious substance and was addressed to Senate President Karen Fann.
A spokesman for Fann, R-Prescott, said staff contacted law enforcement out of an abundance of caution after opening the letter and finding a small amount of substance.
Tests on the substance came back negative, spokesman Mike Philipsen said, referring questions to the Department of Public Safety. The department said Thursday that it continued to investigate but did not elaborate.
