Buffalo Soldier Heritage Day Kicks Off Sunday at Ft. Concho.   SAN ANGELO, TX – The Buffalo Soldier Heritage Day is set for Sunday at Fort Concho. According to the City of San Angelo s Public Information Office, on Feb. 23, the Fort Concho Buffalo Soldier Heritage Day program will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Fort Concho Stables Hall, located at 210 Henry O’Flipper St. This year’s program theme is “Buffalo Soldiers and the Frontier Army: Men, Mission and Myth.”   The program is free to all and is co-sponsored by the Fort Concho Foundation and the San Angelo chapter of the NAACP. Masks will be required for all attendees and social distancing will be in effect. Please note that the Buffalo Soldier Living History Training Class scheduled for Feb. 27 has been canceled.

Those who want to discard of their Christmas trees can do so in the green containers located at 200 N. Columbia or in one of the yellow Loan-A-Tubs at the corners of 16th and Holiday, 2nd and Columbia, 18th and Galveston and Garland and Kermit Streets. The tubs will be removed on Jan. 8 but residents who have a tree to dispose of after that date can still do so by dropping it in the green containers or at the Landfill. The Landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. It’s located at 1031 County Road Y. Call (806)296-1100 for additional information.

Administration offices including Unger Memorial Library, the Plainivew/Hale County Health Department and the Solid Waste Department will be closed. The library will also be closed on Saturday and on Jan. 1 and 2. South Plains Church in Levelland is preparing for its 11th Free Wedding Weekends event on March 5 and 6. The event is meant to help couples facing financial struggles. The church will provide everything – service arrangements, floral items, photo services, wedding invites, an MP4 of the ceremony and a three-tier cake provided by United Supermarkets. Museum Of Texas Tech Exhibit Features Art Of Lubbock Boot Makers

Doctor Jill Hoffman, Assistant Director for Visitor Experience at the Museum of Texas Tech University, joined  The Chad Hasty Show recently to share an invitation to view their newest exhibit which features the art of Lubbock boot makers.  The display will highlight the beautiful work of many local boot makers including Lubbock s own Willie Lusk, Jr., who s custom boots are still highly sought after by boot collectors and have been collected by President Ronald Reagan, the infamous gambling icon Benny Binion, Shirley Temple, and many other notables.  The exhibit is open now and will continue through the end of January 2021.

The board accepting applicants include: Zoning Board of Adjustment, Building Trades/Fire Code Board of Appeals, Parks Advisory Board, Planning & Zoning Commission and the Board of Health.
