The center of the North American continent was once an ocean. That was a few years ago - oh, maybe 70 million years or so. The Museum of the Rockies is setting up a new aquarium display that will be filled with ancient fossils from the Savage Ancient Seas.
You might wonder about the title of the exhibit. Just take a look at the teeth on some of the fossils (photo above). Savage seems like the right description to me. The aquarium will not be filled with water and the fossils will be suspended from the ceiling. There are over 30 casts and real fossils, many from the Western Interior Sea.

LR-130 is on the ballot this fall and locals are having a car rally to spread the word about voting YES on LR-130. You re invited to show your support on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Bubby s Burger Barn. Participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles with banners, flags, and signs. More info here.

Bozeman Librarian wins Montana Librarian of the Year
Every year the Montana Library Association recognizes librarians throughout the state that have made significant contributions to libraries and the service they provide. This year, our very own head of the Bozeman Public Library’s Children’s Department, Cindy Christin, won the Sheila Cates Librarian of the Year Award.
Christin has focused on early literacy for kids throughout her 33 years at the Bozeman Public Library. As part of this, she has spearheaded Books with Babies, Early Childhood Community Council, Child Advancement Project, and the Bozeman Public School’s “Read 100” project.

Science Inquiry Series resumes virtually with Insights in Sleep Research

Can better sleep reduce cardiovascular disease in the U.S.?
Dr. Jason R. Carter, MSU Vice President for Research, Economic Development and Graduate Education, will offer insights into the health benefits of a good night’s sleep as the Science Inquiry Series resumes virtually for winter/spring 2021.
The talk will be presented online via Zoom on Wednesday, January 13, at 7 pm, sponsored by the Gallatin Valley Friends of the Sciences, and co-sponsored by the non-profit community service organization Hopa Mountain and the Museum of the Rockies.
The series explores cutting edge science topics, their latest developments, and their relevance to society through speaker presentations followed by questions from the audience. The talks are free to the public.
