Local leaders react to Maryland lifting the outdoor mask mandate

Larry Hogan s lift of the outside mask mandate, surrounding Maryland leaders are deciding when, and how to proceed with the recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations. Local leaders have shared various reactions to the news. Thursday morning, Montgomery County Executive Mark Elrich told C4 and Bryan Nehman that he would maintain the previously set outdoor mask mandate, adding that there’s no reason not to wear masks. The CDC recommendations were about if you were walking, jogging with your family group. All that stuff - they still do not recommend taking masks off in outdoor restaurants. That s not part of what the CDC said, Elrich said.

During the 90 days the General Assembly was in session, we ran out of ways to say what an unusual, challenging and hard session it was. We overused the word “surreal” to describe the feel of the State House and the legislative campus as lawmakers attempted to do their work with the specter of a COVID-19 hanging over their heads. But that really was the best way to describe it. We missed all the rhythms and serendipity of a normal legislative session. We missed seeing everybody.
