Mitsubishi has released a video of the next Mitsubishi Outlander being put through its paces during final shakedown testing ahead of the new-generation mid-size SUV’s launch on February 16.

Mitsubishi is sometimes the forgotten Japanese automaker. The third wheel of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, Mitsubishi has faced its own recent struggles and, like Nissan, has embarked on a turnaround plan whose aim is to focus mainly in markets where it s been strong for years, such as Southeast Asia. North America is still set to receive the all-new 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander, which will be based on the same platform underpinning the latest Nissan Rogue. The rest of Mitsubishi s lineup, save for the Eclipse Cross, is aging fast and it s time for some fresh blood.
According to a report from Japanese publication Spyder7, that could come in the form of a production-spec version of 2017 s e-Evolution Concept, pictured below.

While it wasn’t mentioned, it is expected that future deliveries of the car in the region wil

Mitsubishi is working on high-performance plug-in hybrid powertrains, featuring as many as four electric motors paired with a combustion engine. The news comes from an interview between Australian journalists and the chief engineer of the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV, Masahiro Awano. Awano-san said both tri- and quad-motor PHEV configurations were under consideration for future performance-oriented vehicles. Mitsubishi showed off the GT-PHEV concept a few years ago, which was based around an Outlander with a single 90kW electric motor at the front axle and twin 45kW electric motors at the rear, hooked up to a 2.4-litre petrol engine.
