Hardware hacker adds real-time ray tracing effects to the SNES

Through a dedicated SuperRT  chip on December 17, 2020, 15:35 In brief: Not too long ago, we saw one enterprising Nintendo fan bring real-time ray tracing to Super Mario 64, courtesy of the unofficial fan PC port for the game that launched earlier this year. Impressive as that achievement was, programmer Ben Carter has upped the ante, bringing ray tracing to another, considerably older Nintendo console: the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Yep, you read that correctly: the SNES, of all consoles, is now capable of ray tracing sort of. Obviously, the SNES lacks any sort of dedicated RT hardware, so Carter was forced to get a bit crafty. He created an external piece of tech that he calls the SuperRT, a dedicated chip that handles lightweight ray tracing operations.

The SNES Encyclopedia: Every Game Released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Book) Review - Feature

by Jordan Rudek - December 16, 2020, 10:25 am EST Nintendo’s 16-bit juggernaut gets the encyclopedia treatment in Scullion’s second compendium. 2019 saw the release of The NES Encyclopedia: Every Game Released for the Nintendo Entertainment System, my review of which you can read here. The not unexpected follow-up from author Chris Scullion chronicling the Super Nintendo’s robust line up released in early November, and I’ve had the pleasure of perusing it from cover to cover. Its greatest success is in reminding the reader of all the wonderful 16-bit classics from three decades hence; its second is in shedding light on the obscure, forgotten, and region-specific games that many may have never come across.

Nintendo Switch Online Will Be Adding Five More Titles

Nintendo Switch Online Will Be Adding Five More Titles  / All the major console platforms available in the marketplace have a premium service tier attached. These premium tiers offer quite a few elements to the game console experience. Not only can players get exclusive discounts along with online multiplayer support, but they will also receive free video game titles to enjoy each month. It’s a great little incentive to pay a monthly fee for players’ enjoyment. While most of these games are a bit newer with the likes of Sony and Microsoft’s console platforms, Nintendo is doing the opposite.
