MILWAUKEE, Wis. The American Rescue Plan included a $28.6 billion lifeline for restaurants, but business owners are already worried the money will run out before they get any aid. Bounce Milwaukee is one of those businesses. In 2014, Becky Cooper-Clancy opened a party space with laser tag, rock climbing, ax throwing, arcades, bounce houses and a restaurant and bar. Think Chuck E. Cheese, but locally owned, with a community justice mission and fun for kids and adults alike.

Milwaukee Black Restaurant Week returning with soul food and more

The sixth annual Milwaukee Black Restaurant Week is returning this month.  BlackSpaceMKE, an urban art cooperative that aims to spread the message of cooperative economics, is putting it on from April 12 through April 18, according to a news release.  Participating soul food eateries will include Arlanderz, Big Daddy s BBQ and Soul Food, Daddy s Soul Food and Grille, Mr. Perkins Family Restaurant and Terri Lynn s Soul Food Express.  Food such as barbecue, wings and pizza can be found at Ashley s Barbeque, Buffalo Boss, Sauce & Spice MKE, Skybox Sports Bar and Taste of Chicago.  Lunch and cafe establishments will include City Net Jazz Cafe, Manhattan Mocha, Plate Pleasures Eatery, Rae s Sweet Sensations, Rise and Grind Cafe and Sam s Place Jazz Cafe. 

Cafe owner continues to persevere amid pandemic

She was only open three months before the pandemic began, and like so many restaurants was struggling to survive, and now five months later not only is she still open but she s excited for the future. I still cannot believe I m here today, I m proud of myself, Christina said. Christina was one of the many newly opened businesses stuck between a rock and a hard place.
