‘The logistics team in the Commerce Ministry is trying to work towards integrating the various means of transport, documentation and stakeholders’ The National Logistics Policy, now under consultation, together with the National Logistics Council and State Logistics Coordination Committee, will work as a template for better coordination and integrated development of logistics centre, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said.
“The logistics team in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry is trying to work towards integrating the various means of transport, documentation and stakeholders, including customs, ports, shipping companies, railways, trucking companies, inland waterways.through technology platforms,” the Minister said addressing the first National Conference of States on Logistics on Tuesday. This would result in a much-simplified way of working, which will enhance the ease of doing business.

In discussion with ET NOW, Vipin Sondhi, MD & CEO, Ashok Leyland discussed the demand levels, scrappage policy and company’s international focus. He mentioned that the CV cycle is bottoming out and demand is still far away from the peak 2 years ago. However, the demand is slowly returning to previous year’s and LCVs are gaining traction faster, possibly boosted by e-commerce.
The Tippers segment has also been recovering due to pick up in construction activity; 4W & 2W sales have increased and bus sales have decreased due to preference for personal mobility. Sondhi mentioned that RM price increase will certainly have an inflationary impact and CV sector will have to calibrate on what the customer can afford.
Indian Railways Gives Big Efficiency Boost On Freight Corridor As Goods Train Records High Average Speed

Freight trains will not have to slow down on the 351 km-long New Bharatpur-New Khurja stretch of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor,
Times of Indiareports.
This feature means that the freight trains can achieve high average speeds leading to faster transportation of materials. For example the goods train flagged off by Prime Minister Modi on the corridor covered 59.6 km in one hour, while travelling at its designated speed of 60 kmph.
This is touted to be one of the unique elements of the two dedicated corridors. The railway officials have revealed that the strict implementation of good maintenance services will provide such convenience to the freight trains on this route.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved proposals of Department of Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT) for construction of various infrastructure projects totalling Rs 7,725.05 crore.
These include projects in Krishnapatnam Industrial Area in Andhra Pradesh with an estimated cost of the project of Rs. 2,139.44 crore; Tumakuru Industrial Area in Karnataka with an estimated cost of Rs. 1,701.81 crore and the Multi-Modal Logistics Hub (MMLH) and Multi-Modal Transport Hub (MMTH) at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh with an estimated cost of Rs. 3,883.80 crore.
