Tom Irving has some 45 years of experience in intellectual property law. His U.S. pharma practice includes America Invents Act (AIA) post-grant proceedings, due diligence, counseling, patent prosecution, reissue, and reexamination. In addition to advising on procuring strong U.S. patents, Tom counsels clients on a wide range of mainly pharmaceutical matters, including pre-litigation, Orange Book listings of patents covering FDA-approved drugs, infringement issues, enforceability, supplemental examination, and validity analysis. He has served as lead counsel in numerous patent interferences, reissues, and reexaminations; as lead counsel in numerous AIA post-grant proceedings; and as an expert witness in patent litigation and patent procurement.

Bank of America files record number of patents 19 February 2021
Source: Bank of America Bank of America inventors filed 722 patent applications with the United States Patent Office last year, the most in the company’s history. This record came while 85% of the company’s workforce was working from home due to the coronavirus. Separately, the bank was granted 444 patents in 2020, also a company record, during a period when U.S. patents granted overall were down 1%.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) awarded Toyota more patents than any other automaker in 2020, according to an annual ranking by the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO). Toyota’s engineers and scientists were granted a total of 2,819 patents in 2020, up 4% from 2019 and outpacing any.
Toyota has officially earned the most patents of any automaker in the U.S. In 2020, its scientists and engineers were awarded 2,819 patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, a 4 percent increase over 2019.
The ranking was certified by the Intellectual Property Owners Association and the results confirm that Toyota way out ahead of the automotive pack in terms of patents.
And that’s hardly a surprise when you consider the number of patents that funneled their way onto our own pages. Take, for example the car wash judgment patent for autonomous vehicles. The patent would basically be able to tell how to get an autonomous car through a carwash, which when you consider the variation of car washes and the nature of their mechanisms must be a nightmare for autonomous cars.
