A tribute to the inventiveness of faculty and staff at the University of MissouriâSt. Louis now stands in lobby of the Science Learning Building.
Last month, facilities staff members completed construction of the UMSL Innovation wall, comprised of plaques recognizing UMSL inventors on issued U.S. patents.
There have been 54 awarded in the time that records were kept. Jianli Pan, an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science, has added to that number with a patent for his technology using blockchain and smart contracts to help harden security for Internet of Things devices.
This means they work as a third party with software suppliers and their customers.
Suppliers can periodically put software codes into NCC’s physical or virtual vaults, which can then be accessed by their customers. This keeps the products safe and means they can be accessed in an emergency.

Construction contractor Kier Group has kicked off a £241million share sale.
Boss Andrew Davies said the fundraising – announced in April – would be the ‘final milestone’ of a restructuring that began in 2019. Kier will put the cash towards paying its £436million debts and bolstering its balance sheet.
